We officially kicked off construction of our biggest project to date. And this one is PERSONAL. As in, it's our own home.

We've tackled a lot of projects, big and small, on our own homes and rental properties over the years. Our biggest project (before now) included a full-house gut and remodel of our most recent home, our St. Paul abode. Will do a full post of that one another day.

The House

We were lucky enough to land a dreamy 1930 Mediterranean home that was not only on a huge city park, but also on a HUGE (for Minneapolis) double lot at a third of an acre. This lot size was not something we were seeking at the time, but we instantly fell in love with the possibility of adding valuable square footage and wait for it... an attached heated garage.

Outside of updating our (very) vintage kitchen, the majority of the rest of our existing footprint will remain exactly as is. This 1930 home packs a lot of charm, including an original bathroom with adorable vintage tile with all the peachy pink tones. Other than updating some fixtures here and there, the original footprint is perfect.

The Project Scope

Updated kitchen (existing footprint)

New breezeway mudroom (addition - first floor)

New main floor bathroom (addition - first floor)

New attached heated garage (addition - first floor)

New laundry room (addition - second floor)

New office space (addition - second floor)

New primary suite, bed and bath (addition - second floor)

New courtyard separating house and garage (exterior)

The Exterior Plans

Our extremely talented friend and architect, Kiel Uhl, partnered with us to create period-appropriate plans for this project that not only met our every want and need, but also kept the best parts of our existing home (and dreamy natural light) intact.

Follow along as we dive head-first into this big, overwhelming, and dreamy project we've been dreaming up for years.
